A day in the life of a StarBox Trainee
Henry has been working as a StarBox trainee since August 2024 and works in the Worthing office, whilst also training for his ACCA qualification.
As part of the Carpenter Box Creative and Media offering, StarBox offers full accountancy and business advice services for online content creators, streamers, new media entrepreneurs, app developers and gamers.
Morning
Not being much of a morning person, I usually try to lay in until 07.30 am. Once my alarm goes off, I instantly get up jump in the shower and get dressed for work. Fortunately I live near the office, so it's a short drive to work and gives me plenty of time in the morning to relax and enjoy a cup of tea.
I aim to arrive in the Worthing office and be ready to work by 09.00 am. However, our team does work flexibly and so I’m able to work a little earlier or later to suit my day and commitments.

Arriving at work
When I arrive, I use my fob to get into the office, and say an array of “good mornings” to the team. I quickly check where I am sitting through our desk booking system and then I’ll set up my work laptop at my desk. We pre-book our desks for the week in advance depending on what work or cliens we are working on.
The work
My responsibilities as a StarBox trainee are very diverse and vary depending on what is needed from me from my team and our clients. Typically, I work on personal tax returns or preparing sets of accounts for limited companies. However, I am often asked to complete ad-hoc tasks as per my manager’s request for a particular client need.
Lunch
I personally take an hour’s lunch break at 1pm, but we are free to take lunch when we like and even take a shorter break and leave earlier. As we are based in the heart of Worthing, it’s a short walk to Tesco, The Co-op and lot of good restaurants. We often go out for team lunches at Limings, an excellent Mexican restaurant a minute’s walk away.
The afternoon
After lunch, it’s time to crack on with some more work. Often a limited company’s account task may take you a day or two to complete, so there’s never a shortage of work. I’ll often listen to a podcast whilst doing these.
Home time
I leave the office around 5.30 pm and head back home. This allows me plenty of time to make a high protein dinner typically consisting of chicken or steak. While I eat, I catch up on the latest in the MMA world. After dinner, I’ll head to the gym for a good training session and play some online games with my friends when I’m home.
Study
As a Starbox trainee, I opted for the ACCA qualification rather than ACA, as I felt it would offer me the greatest number of opportunities. I’m currently studying for my exams on a student contract, which allows me 3-4 days off for studying per exam, depending on which exam I’m taking.
On my study days, I mostly revise through study content, which relates to the work I do in the office. I also make sure to use the helpful revision resources provided to me by StarBox.
